Self-criticism – Pure Image, Quotation, Fake

Selected piece of original wall of the exhibition space, its digital print reproduction and its hand-painted copy on canvas, each 300 x 150 cm, 2005.

Roumen Zhekov was born in 1960 in Haskovo. In 1979 he finished the High School of Art in the town of Kazanlak. He studied painting in Prof. Mikhailov’s class and graduated from the Sofia Academy of Fine Arts in 1988. Since 1989 the artist has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the first alternative art group “Ryb” (The Edge). He has been a member of DISCO’95 Art Group since 1995. Roumen Jekov’s work ranges from painting over drawing, photography, installation, action, happening to performance. He lives and works in Plovdiv.

The idea is to see to what extent something can be an original and how its being multiplied turns it into a quotation or a fake. In the multiplication, the value and the pure image are lost and turned into decorative wallpaper.
